About Animal Whispering
After the vets have been consulted and have had ample opportunity to correct an
illness to no avail, it may be determined that the illness has an emotional cause. In
this case all the meds, surgeries, herbs and vitamins may assist the animal for a
while, then frequently the symptoms return. This is not to say the vets are faulty
or the remedies trash, rather the solution falls into a category for which the vets
have not been trained and the remedies do not apply. Speaking with the animal
and getting to the heart of the emotion can illuminate situations or circumstances
occurring for him/her that the person caring for the animal can generally relate to.
Carolyn called me because her small dog had been suffering with allergy symptoms
for quite some time. She had taken the dog to several different vets, both
traditional and holistic, and had tried some home remedies of her own. Each
attempt helped for a while then the symptoms would recur. Carolyn was beside
herself with concern and the dog was clearly miserable with scaly, scabby skin and
very sparse fur.
During our conversation, Sassy, the dog shared that she was whole heartedly
grieving the loss of Carolyn's husband who had passed nearly 3 years prior. When I
passed this information on to Carolyn she informed me that she, too, was still
grieving, but was very careful to do it only when she was away from Sassy because
Sassy had been so closely attached to her husband and she didn't want to upset
her. Carolyn wanted to protect Sassy.
It became clear that the bottled up grief was bursting from this dog through her
skin. She did not feel safe expressing her grief and neither did Carolyn. I suggested
the two of them begin grieving together.
A few months later Carolyn reported that she and Sassy had followed my suggestion
and that Sassy's allergy symptoms had completely cleared up, her skin had healed,
her fur had completely grown back, and she was a lively, spunky dog once again.
I don't claim to cure or heal illness, however getting to the truth about why the
illness is present, on an emotional level, can have a very positive affect on the
overall well-being of the animal.
Take a look at what is going on internally for you that may have a detrimental
affect if not addressed. If you are feeling over stressed, your pet may be too. If
you're feeling lonely or alone, your pet may be too. Addressing these emotions for
ourselves is of great benefit for our pets on many levels. This is not to say that we
people are responsible for or are the cause of our pets' negative emotional states,
however oftentimes these issues are shared by both.
